The artwork of Polish artist Morawetz has, from the beginning, borne a strong magical aspect. The human being, the most important figure in her mystical universe, is removed from any particular time and place and belongs to a world of nature—one saturated with story-telling, spirituality, and mystery.
To create these worlds, Morawetz, a native of Poland, transfers photographs of human figures onto wood or canvas using light-sensitive emulsion. She then paints over the surface with oil and beeswax.
Working like an alchemist, Morawetz links these complex processes using modern technology to serve one purposeto reach the forgotten world of myths revealed through a pictorial memory.
